The Family Class Sponsorship program aims at the reunification of families by allowing adult Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents to sponsor their relatives for immigration to Canada.

Who can sponsor:

• A Canadian citizen or Permanent resident (18 years of age or older) residing in Canada
• A person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act (18 years of age or older) residing in Canada
• A Canadian citizen living outside Canada, who plans to sponsor spouse/common law partner/conjugal partner or dependent children (who have no dependent children of their own) and return to Canada when the sponsored person immigrate to Canada

Responsibilities of the sponsor:

• You must meet set income guidelines except if you are sponsoring your spouse/common law partner, conjugal partner
• You must enter into an agreement with the person you wish to sponsor that you would financially support them from the date they become a permanent resident (for at least 3 years for a spouse, common law partner or conjugal partner, 10 years for a dependent child or until the child turns 25 years of age, whichever comes first and 20 years for parents and grandparents). By way of the agreement, the sponsored person also agrees to make every effort to financially support themselves
